15 Best WordPress Tutorials for Beginners

WordPress is a relatively easy to use CMS (Content Management System) but when you are a beginner, every task looks daunting. To help you deal with the challenge, here is a list of 15 great WordPress tutorials for beginners. The first 10 tutorials are general WordPress tutorials that either cover everything around it, or a particular common task, such as configuration after installation, or how to create a simple WordPress plugin and a simple WordPress theme. There are also some video tutorials for those of you who prefer watching to reading.

1. WordPress Lessons from WordPress.org Itself

The first tutorial that deserves to be checked (and read) is from the creators of WordPress themselves. It is a very comprehensive tutorial that covers everything around WordPress – from beginner to advanced stuff. The beginners’ sections are written in a relatively easy to understand language, so even if you have no WordPress idea whatsoever, you will still be able to understand the tutorial. If you plan to read it all, it might take you weeks but for a quick familiarization, a day or less will do.

2. WordPress Cheat Sheet

Cheat Sheets are very popular among programmers and designers because they show at a glance the most important concepts in a language or technology. The same principle applies here – the most important PHP snippets for templates, navigation, loops, etc. are shown on one page and are very handy for a quick check.

3. WordPress for Designers

Even though this is a video tutorial, I listed it here because of its special purpose – WordPress for designers. Each video in the series explains a separate part of WordPress. The videos are meant to be one a day but if you have the time, you can watch them all in just a couple of hours. If you have absolutely no idea of WordPress, the learning curve might be a steep one but if you are not a complete stranger, then this is an easy movie to watch.

5. A Complete WordPress Tutorial

Here is one more complete WordPress tutorial for beginners. Unlike the others, it’s written in the form of how-tos. This means that if you are stuck with a particular task, such as how to install a theme, or how to backup your WordPress installation, you can jump right to it instead of having to browse through chapters and sections to find it. The site also offers a video course you might want to check.

6. A WordPress eBook

Video tutorials are cute and so are comprehensive online tutorials. However, if you want to download and read a tutorial offline, then an eBook in pdf format is a much better option. The tutorial in the link is exactly this – a pdf ebook you can read offline.

9. How to Create Your Very First WordPress Plugin

Modularity is a key concept in WordPress. When you install WordPress, you get the basic functionality you later extend with plugins. While there are thousands of free plugins available, if you can’t find a plugin that does exactly what you want, you still might need to write it yourself. Writing WordPress plugins is not an easy task but if you want something really simple, then even if you are not a programmer, you can do it. This tutorial explains more on this.

For anybody, who wants a fast way to build a decent WordPress site, this tutorial is just great. The site you will be building won’t be a fancy one but it’s more than good. 14. Responsive WordPress Theme Tutorial

This is hardly the easiest WordPress tutorial you can find but since responsive themes are much better than other themes, I decided to include it. Thanks for this great post.
I checked a few, not as easy as described (YT videos in particular are not that helpful).
